Foam 161 – the fire truck damaged by the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon – will be unveiled during Fort Knox’s Sept. 11 Patriot Day ceremony as the centerpiece for one of the Patton Museum’s new exhibits about leadership.

The public is invited to the event, which is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. in front of the museum (4554 Fayette Avenue, Fort Knox, KY 40121).

The vehicle will be displayed in its condition following the 9/11 attack and will be one of only two 9/11 fire trucks on display in museums. The wreckage of the truck also served as a flagpole for the first flag flown at the Pentagon after the attack. The three firefighters who served on the truck during 9/11 will be at the ceremony and available to speak with attendees following the event.

On Sept. 10, Foam 161 will be loaded onto a flatbed trailer and driven down U.S. Highway 31W from Fort Knox, around the Elizabethtown roundabout, and back to Fort Knox from 2 to 4 p.m. Community members are encouraged to line 31W to pay their respects to this piece of American history.
