Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
In 2011, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute approached local Hardin County veterans in the hopes to bring a permanent replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to Elizabethtown, KY. The project was approved by the City of Elizabethtown and land from the Elizabethtown Nature Park was chosen to house The Wall project.
The newly formed Hardin County Veterans Tribute Group began fund-raising to pay for the project. There were initially 10 Vietnam Veterans who each contributed $1,000.00 for the down payment of the Wall. With the help of these and other local veterans, citizens in the community, and local businesses, the needed funds were acquired to turn this dream into a reality.
The Wall is an 80 percent scale of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. It measures 360 ft. long and 8 ft. tall. The Memorial was built in 40 days by members of the Veterans Tribute Group, UAW/Ford 862, the City of Elizabethtown and Bluegrass Tank. It consists of more than 58,000 names of the brave men and women who served in Vietnam, both living and dead.
The Wall was officially dedicated on April 28, 2018 with the hope that the memorial will help heal the war wounds of our Vietnam Veterans, teach our youth, and educate the community.
